WrestlingNerd Presents: WWE Smackdown 1/18/13 Review

What up wrestling fans, I'm the WrestlingNerd bringing you another written review. Today, we take a look at WWE Smackdown 1/18/13. Any surprises? Let's find out and begin.

We open up the show with Fiesta Del Rio…

Yeah, it's a party….Just as the celebration is about to get started, Dolph Ziggler comes out to interrupt. I think AJ was already scouting her next boyfriend. Why did I feel that when Big E spoke to Ricardo, he was planning on rapping him? The two are about to throw-down until Big Show arrives to join up with Dolph. Sheamus comes out and decides to help out Del Rio. After months of the two beating the crap out of each other, they're now friends. Wrestling logic at its finest. After some bromance between Sheamus and Del Rio, the two are ready to fight. Booker T comes out to make a tag match, or the Teddy Long Special. I love how Show leaves the ring. Ironclad contract, my ass!!! Once the baddies leave, the party goes on. Part of me wonders if this will be the most ridiculous thing I will watch tonight. You gotta admit that it's up there. One thing I did like about the opening was it gave us an early glimpse of Dolph/Del Rio.

Match #1: Antonio Cesaro vs Kofi Kingston
In a short match, Antonio wins with the Neutralizer. WWE Smackdown: Now with more power-naps.

Winner via pinfall: Antonio Cesaro

Match #2: Khali vs Tensai
You compared this to Optimus Prime vs Megatron? Go f*** yourself, Josh. Khali wins with the chop. Why should I care about this match?

Winner via pinfall: Khali

Match #3: Team Hell No and Randy Orton vs Rhodes Scholars and Wade Barrett
Team Hell No is working on their anger issues with Randy Orton. Daniel wants a group hug after the match, but Randy doesn't seem interested in developing human emotion. He's like a robot. This was a short, but entertaining match. Damien almost steals this match, but Team Hell No was able to save the match. The finish comes when Randy hits Sandow with the RKO. After the match….

Robo-Randy seems confused. I love Team Hell No.

Match #4: Miz vs Primo
Are you having problems getting a convincing jobber? Are dull matches just not doing it for you? Well, you've come to the right place. When you need a jobber to make yourself look good, call the Puerto Rican Express. That's 555-JOBB!!! Miz wins with the Figure Four. Why do I expect complaints from the internet with Miz using this move? I personally don't have a problem with but……never mind.

Winner via submission: Miz

Match #5: Kaitlyn vs Aksana
In a backstage scene, I think we saw some foreshadowing for Kaitlyn/Layla. Mostly because Layla was mesmerized by looking at the title. Either that or she was captivated by the shiny. I still stand by me original thoughts on Eve leaving. I don't think it means anything in the long run. Kaitlyn wins the match.

Winner via pinfall: Kaitlyn

Believe in the Shield……Believe…..BELIEVE IN THE SHIELD!!! Geeze, I thought Roman Reigns was gonna eat the camera for a second there. This show should come with a warning.

Match #6: Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus vs Big Show and Dolph Ziggler
This was probably the best match of the night, but I don't find it very memorable. The finish comes when Del Rio splashes water in Show's face. He gets so angry that he leaves the match. Del Rio and Sheamus win via countout. Water really is the ultimate weapon in the wrestling business. Tables, chairs, ladders? That's for pussies. Water? NOW you're a real man.

Winner via countout: Alberto Del Rio and Sheamus

Overall Impression:
Not a whole lot stood out from this episode. It isn't what I would call a bad show, but nothing really sticks out from this episode. The Team Hell No spot was funny, but nothing else is memorable. This is definitely a step backwards from last week's episode. Looks like it didn't take long for SD to go back to its old tricks. I really don't have a lot to say with this episode, so at least the review is kept short. Well, that's gonna do it for the review and I hope you enjoyed it. Tell me what you thought of my review or tonight's show. I will see you guys and girls in the next one.

  2. I was kind of hoping that after the group hug that Orton would hit a double RKO to both of them.

And the crowd seem to be accepting Del Rio as a face, which is good news for him and the WWE. Plus as a face Del Rio will be able to use some of his more crowd pleasing moves from his lucha days which will help get him over even more

  3. Even if they do a feud with Kaitlyn and Layla, it's going to be half-assed. If WWE cared about the Diva's division, they would know they need a strong heel such as Tamina (who can take over now that Beth is gone). Along with rebuilding the division itself.
