WrestlingNerd Presents: WWE Smackdown Review 6/8/12

What up wrestling fans, I'm the WrestlingNerd bringing you another written review. Today, we take a look at WWE Smackdown 6/8/12. How do things go this week? Let's find out and start the review.

We open up the show with Alberto Del Rio….

Oh, come on. Let's give him a chance. Del Rio gloats about the attack on Sheamus from Raw this past week. That's when Sheamus' music hits. Why is Sheamus all small? Did he discover the reverse steroid? Noooo, it turns out to be Ricardo Rodriguez dressed up like Sheamus. I like Ricardo. Why doesn't this guy have his own TV show? He's hilarious. I love his attempt at performing the Brogue Kick. Anyway, Del Rio is talking about how Sheamus isn't unique, but Del Rio is one of a kind. Yeah, cuz we never had a rich guy running around in the WWE….

The real Sheamus arrives and a fight begins. Del Rio and Ricardo retreat, but Sheamus chases after them. Teddy Long arrives to break it up. Since John Laurinaitis is preparing for his job evaluation, Teddy has to oversee tonight's show. I guess Johnny was performing a "evaluation" with Eve this evening. Eh….EH? Ah, you don't care. Teddy books Kane vs Sheamus and Del Rio vs Khali tonight. It was a basic opening to the show, but I found it slightly amusing. I think it was because of Ricardo. I want this guy to show up on TV more. He's entertaining.

Match #1: Alberto Del Rio vs Great Khali
Leave it to Khali to make a smaller guy look dominate as they take down this giant. It's funny that Khali was a world champion at one point. Oh well. Stranger things have happened. Del Rio wins with the Cross Armbreaker in a very short match.

Winner via submission: Alberto Del Rio

Match #2: Brodus Clay vs Derrick Bateman
In a short backstage scene, we find out that Brodus has been moved to SD since Johnny wants to keep him away from Big Show. It's funny because we are supposed to pretend the brand exclusives still exist. Even though it's kinda a joke at this point. Oh, you silly WWE and WRESTLING LOGIC that almost serves no rhyme or reason. Brodus wins with the Funk It Splash. Bateman? More like Derrick Jobman, am I right? It kinda makes you feel bad for NXT talents.

Winner via pinfall: Brodus Clay

Match #3: Sin Cara vs Drew McIntyre
It's the Red Ranger vs a Scotsman. You don't see that everyday. Booker T can really get out there on commentary. He said how he wanted to see Sin Cara fly like the greatest of bee of mold. What? Yes, I know what he was trying to say here. It's called not taking everything so seriously……or serial. Anyway, Sin Cara wins with a spinning DDT. I bet Drew's wondering who he has to blow to get a push around here.

Winner via pinfall: Sin Cara

Match #4: Ryback vs Jobbers from the moon; Handicap match
The jobbers are Tony Andriotis and Kevin Mahoney. Your typical Ryback squash match. Ryback wins with the double Muscle Buster. Bring me more…..donuts!!! Again, I'm gonna keep doing this until they give him an actual program. In fact, I think they should let Ryback take the Tag Team Championships by himself. I know people wouldn't be for this idea, but it would give Ryback something to do and it would make the tag titles interesting. Sorry to anyone who's a fan of Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, but these guys aren't doing it for me. Give it to Ryback and let's see how he can dominate the division. But you might want to give him some donuts before you think about doing this idea. I think he was serious.

Winner via pinfall: Ryback

As they are setting up for the Peep Show, Cody Rhodes shows up as they are decorating the ring. Apparently, Cody is pissed off at Christian and thinks Christian is going through a mid-life crisis because of his sudden change of attitude. Christian arrives and says what made him change his outlook on life was when he inducted Edge in the Hall of Fame. Really? I thought it was because of the script-ures. What did you think I was gonna say? He didn't want to be known as that whiny guy who kept screaming for…..wait for it……wait for it……I may not get another opportunity for this…..ONE MORE MATCH!!! Dolph Ziggler arrives and is ready for his match with Christian, which ends the Peep Show. I gotta give them credit for at least adding intrigue for the IC Championship match, despite the fact that a lot of people are probably not interested in this match. I still think it can be a fun match at No Way Out.

Match #5: Christian vs Dolph Ziggler
Cody is on commentary for this match. The match was decent, but it really wasn't given a lot of time to shine. I guess it's because we need more Michael Cole screen time. The finish comes when Christian hits the Frog Splash for the victory. So, how's that whole "Dolph wanting to be taken seriously" working out for him? I hope they find something good for him. He really is a misused talent.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

Can I have your attention please…..

Anyway, Cole wants everyone to move on from the humiliating night that happened on Raw. But I thought it was slobber-knocker good? You start to hear the Oklahoma Sooner fight song, but it turns out to be Hornswoggle dressed up as JR. Would this be considered trolling? While Hornswoggle is laughing at Cole, Damien Sandow arrives because this doesn't scream intelligence. Come one, it's a little person running around thinking he's funny. We are about as far away from intelligence as you can get. Tyson Kidd arrives to help Hornswoggle. Sandow retreats and decides to go read some Shakespeare………Oh my God, SURPRISE ATTACK!!! As Tyson turns his back on Damien, Sandow takes out Tyson. Well, so much for Tyson having a defining moment. Then again, he's a regular on NXT, which is the fate of anyone who shows up on Raw or SD. That pose Damien does when he KOs an opponent is kinda creepy. It looks the face you would make if you're gonna rape someone. Nobody go near that guy.

Match #6: Antonio Cesaro vs Jey Uso
Kane had an interview backstage. He talks about not having any feelings for anyone and how he will become WWE Champion at the PPV. From a distance, AJ is stalking Kane from behind some boxes. AJ is so tiny that she can hid behind anything. In the next shot, they should show AJ hiding inside an actual box. Oh, Antonio is in the ring. Its been a while since we've seen this guy. WWE debuted so many people after WrestleMania that some got lost in the mix. After returning from the WWE Witness Protection Program, Antonio destroys. The finish comes when Antonio hits his Gotch Style Neutralizer for the victory. Teddy is forced to swallow his pride as he does the pre and post match introductions for Antonio. He even has to raise his hand in victory as Antonio makes out with Aksana. The Swiss are dangerous in more than one way.

Winner via pinfall: Antonio Cesaro

Match #7: Sheamus vs Kane
This was the longest match of the night. Considering their size, it was actually a fair contest. The finish comes when Del Rio and Ricardo arrive to attack, thus resulting in a no contest. During all the shenanigans, Kane is about to hit a Chokeslam on Sheamus, but AJ arrives and distracts Kane. This allows Sheamus to hit the Brogue Kick to take Kane out. He also hits the Brogue Kick on Ricardo as the show closes. I can see people complaining about how AJ distracted Kane, but look at her? She's adorable and you can easily get distracted by her. This match actually did more for the WWE Championship match than it did for the WHC match at the PPV. I can't help but think it should be the other way around.

No Contest

Overall Impression:
Even though I felt Raw this past week was better than some of the previous weeks for Monday night, I found the blue brand better for a third straight week. While there was nothing alarming with this week's SD, I felt it was a fair show to watch. It was mostly a filler kind of show, but I had to take something out of this week for pro wrestling. It really seems like both companies have been running on cruise control lately, so it was nice for something to stand out with SD this week. The action was okay for the most part. While the promos/segments were somewhere in the middle, some did stand out. Not a lot of people will really like this show, but if you felt Raw and Impact were a disappointment, this one might be able to give you just enough fix for the week. That's gonna do it for the review and I hope you enjoyed it. As always, tell me what you thought of my review or tonight's show. I will see you guys and girls on the next WrestlingNerd show. See you next time.

  2. Sheamus is soo boring why is he champion?
As for the christian vs rhodes match at NWO, i'm looking forward to that. It'll make the IC title relevant again, hopefully christian wins and rhodes goes onto face sheamus.
I can see sandow vs kidd, pure wrestling match and their mic skills aren't bad. It'll be a good way to push younger talent.
Ryback should go on raw to face tensai!

  3. del rio has a lot of potential, i don't think he's boring at all. Dolph ziggler's more boring than del rio.
They both wrestle well but del rio's mic skills are better than ziggler imo

  4. I was quite disappointed that Ricardo wasn't still dressed like Sheamus when he came out for a second time.

and could you see how hostile the crowd actually was towards Hornswoggle during that JR skit? You just know that the crowd would have been cheering when Sandow came out

    1. The Sheamus get-up ended up getting copyrighted about 30 minutes after Ricardo's first appearance, so that's why he had to change.

  5. When you talk about boring -- don't forget Sin Cara!!

  6. So there's that douchebag above pretending to be me. I actually expected this. SMH.

    I'll make this simple.

Ziggler - Completely agree, this guy is almost 32 and STILL hasn't gotten the strong push he deserves. This needs to change a.s.a.p

Damion Sandow - Hilarious, and full of charisma/personality. Would be cool to see him in a feud with....

Tyson Kidd - Talk about letting one of your best talents rot. This guy shouldn't still be appearing on NXT or Superstars. Come on!!!

Sin Cara - Don't care. Doesn't impress me. Perhaps if they had a cruiser weight division again he could shine to his full potential.

Smackdown - Only had two actually real non squash matches. Pretty sad.

Dick for brains impostor - I didn't enjoy TNA this week as much. You can now rejoice.

    1. You clearly have no knowledge about wrestling. None of the above is true. Apart from tna being lacklustre.

  7. i like the rivalry for the IC championship (looking forward to that).

AJ for next divas title :)

Ryback holding both tag team title could be interesting.

    That is all.

    1. AJ has made more appearances than Layla as of late, so why the hell not? Even though I like Layla, AJ is the most popular diva at the moment.
