WrestlingNerd Presents: WWE Smackdown Review 8/10/12

What up wrestling fans, I'm the WrestlingNerd bringing you another written review. Today, we take a look at WWE Smackdown 8/10/12. Oh yeah, WWE still has THIS show. Ummm…..Let's take a look.

We open up the show with Booker T. He laughs at Sheamus' car theft, but tells him to come out and apologize for stealing the car. Sheamus says it was funny, but he has to make up for his crime. Well, at least SOMEONE is admitting that they've done wrong, unlike a certain wrestler who hooked up with a terrible actress. Alberto Del Rio arrives and says he took this to the police. Makes you wonder why he didn't do that sooner…..Oh yeah, that would be because of the WRESTLING LOGIC. Booker informs Del Rio that if he takes him to court, there can't be a title match. Ummm…..Yeah, I'm sure they made that up. Sheamus says he will defend the world title tonight. Del Rio isn't positive about this, but accepts. Yeah, so we appear to have a WHC title match tonight. Well, one thing that I do like is they are finally showing tension between Del Rio and Sheamus, which should've happened a month ago. Better late than never, I suppose.

Match #1: Cody Rhodes vs Sin Cara
Before the match, Cody says Sin needs a mask because he's ugly. That, and the company profits from Sin's mask. BUY ONE TODAY!!! The match didn't last long. Cody focused on removing Sin's mask, which lead to Sin getting a rollup victory. I know people will be upset that Cody isn't moving up the card, but it finally gives both guys something to do. Especially Sin Cara, since that guy hasn't had a storyline since last year. I think it will be interesting to watch.

Winner via pinfall: Sin Cara

Daniel Bryan is the funniest character in all of pro wrestling right now. Just look at him? He's hilarious. He's probably the best character to watch right now. Yeah, so Bryan isn't happy about facing Kane at SS, isn't happy with AJ, and isn't happy with the audience. Kane arrives and it seems they are ready to fight, but AJ shows up. Hey, what's this crazy chick doing on my SD? She talks about how Kane is a sweet guy, while she brings up that Bryan has never defeated Kane in a fair match. She wants Bryan to shake Kane's hand. Because AJ can cut your balls off in public, Bryan eats the bait. Too bad Kane didn't get the memo, since this leads to a fight. The scene ends with Bryan running through the audience, AJ being pleased with what she saw, and Kane still being confused. Yeah, so some added fuel between Kane and Bryan. It was a strange scene, but it was funny to watch. In a backstage scene, Booker tells Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks to step it up. Okay, Sonic the Hedgehog.

Match #2: Jinder Mahal vs Ryback's dead jobbers
Jinder wants to prove that he's better than Ryback, so he goes up against two guys. Jinder wins with the Camel Clutch. I like how these jobbers didn't even try. It's like they gave up. After the match, Jinder does a double Camel Clutch. Ryback arrives and…..WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS EYE? I think he popped a blood vessel from wearing those tights. Either that or he lost his cool when somebody undercooked his steak. Anyway, Jinder retreats, but not before Ryback sends a message by hitting Shell Shocked on the jobbers. I noticed that WWE didn't even bother giving the jobbers names this week. What, did the creative staff just give up? Did they run out of time? In fact, I'll do it for you. Bitch #1 and Bitch #2 both get killed by Jinder and Ryback. See, was that so hard?

Winner via submission: Jinder Mahal

Chris Jericho comes out for the Highlight Reel. Instead of Dolph Ziggler coming out, Vickie Guerrero comes out to speak on his behalf. This segment was pretty hilarious. You want to leave? Well, get the hell out. I love Jericho. Dolph vs Jericho will happen at SS. Jericho says Y2J is officially back. Where did he go? To the bathroom? Joking aside, Jericho says he will prove that he hasn't lost his touch. Dolph tries to cheap-shot Jericho, but it fails. Once Dolph is down, Vickie slaps Jericho. Y2J turns around, but ends up getting hit with the Zig Zag. I guess referring to yourself as Y2J makes you forget about your surroundings. I'm really enjoying this Jericho/Dolph feud. Can't wait to see this match.

Match #3: Prime Time Players vs Primo and Epico; #1 Contender match for WWE Tag Titles
Ladies and gentleman, I am AW and this is my last night on the job….wait, what? Yeah, as I'm writing this, it was reported that AW was released from the company. This reminds me of a few years back when Daniel Bryan was released for the tie deal. I hope to see AW back in this company. I don't approve of what AW said, but I think the punishment was a little extreme. I guess the McMahons are really serious about this campaign…..again. The finish comes when AW splashes the ultimate weapon at Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (Who were doing commentary). How is water not banned? The tag champs attack the PTP, meaning they win the match via DQ. I like the idea of protecting the PTP and Primo and Epico, but part of me is a little bummed that AW is gone. I guess we will see how this folds out for the PTP.

Winner and NEW #1 Contender to Tag Titles: Prime Time Players

Match #4: Christian vs Antonio Cesaro
Match didn't last long, but it was pretty good. I really liked this match since Antonio got to show more of his skills. After a ton of counters, the finish comes when Christian hits a quick Spear for the victory. After the match, Antonio is pissed off and takes out Christian. In my opinion, the booking made sense. Christian is the veteran, while Antonio is the young, up-and-comer. So, it made sense for Christian to get this victory. At the same time, it was kinda weird how they established Antonio has a threat for the US Championship and not have ANY interaction with Santino this week. Part of me wants to see them put the US title on Antonio right now. It might be premature, but we really do need to see a new US Champion. Now that I'm on this match, whatever happened to Miz/Christian? They left if open for a rematch, but just decided to stop. Maybe they nixed the idea, but it seems pretty silly to not finish it off.

Winner via pinfall: Christian

Booker and Eve in a backstage scene. Kaitlyn wants a job, so Booker gives her an assistant job. Eve complains, so Booker makes a match. Kaitlyn vs Eve, where the winner gets the assistant position. I guess the assistant is there to give Booker and Teddy Long a day off? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Match #5: Rey Mysterio vs Miz
I guess Mysterio's new gimmick is that he's the Riddler. Anyway, this match was short, but fair. The finish comes when Rey counters Skull Crushing Finale into a rollup and steals this match. The finish pretty much opens the door for a Rey/Miz rivalry. I think Rey/Miz can be pretty fun to watch.

Winner via pinfall: Rey Mysterio

Match #6: Sheamus vs Alberto Del Rio; WHC match
Just as the match is about to get started, police arrive and surround the ring. Del Rio says he didn't send for them….

Yeah, it appears Del Rio payed off the crew from Police Academy to attack Sheamus. Del Rio finally takes down Sheamus after the brutal assault. You know, I'm actually liking Del Rio's character right now. He just seems more comfortable with his current character. The show ends with Del Rio standing tall. So, it was obvious that Del Rio set up Sheamus from the get go. I don't have a problem with this approach. I find that it adds more intrigue to the rematch. I know most people don't want to see this, but the buildup this time around is at least making this interesting.

No Contest

Overall Impression:
This wasn't that bad of an episode. I wouldn't call this a great episode, but I wouldn't call it bad. It brought fourth most of the major storylines and introduced a few new ones. The evening really didn't feature some of the greatest matches. Some of these matches were looking pretty good, but were cut due to time constraints. I would mostly consider this a filler episode, but with filler that you might enjoy. Still, the show was also pretty average, so don't be surprised if you aren't big on this episode. That's gonna do it for the review and I hope you enjoyed it. As always, tell me what you thought of my review or tonight's show. I will see you guys and girls on the next WrestlingNerd show. See you next time.

  1. Three things confused me on this episode.

Firstly, where the hell was randy?! He was clearly missed, they could've had h come out and save Sheamus when hewas attacked. Or, they could've just had him somewhere in the show. I'd be gutted if he's not in summerslam which looks likely ATM.

Secondly, when vickie said "who's your mother now" that didn't make sense at all did it?

And lastly, what's up with the question mark on rey's top? Think it could mean something.

    Awesome review btw :)

    1. Randy is probably still in the bad books from his drug suspension so don't be too surprised if he goes unused for a while.

And Rey's question mark is probably because his name when spelt correctly basically translates to king of mystery, plus alot of tights he wore in his early days featured question marks on them so it could be a throwback to them

  2. do you know that Ryback get's his tights from the same bloke that does Rob Van Dam's? So RVD could have something to do with Ryback's eye looking a bit red

  3. While people are getting behind AW since he got released, I am unsure if he will be brought back like Daniel Bryan by how he reacted on his Twitter account and it seemed like he burnt that bridge.

  4. maybe rey watched Batman Forever recently because not only did he have the question mark for the riddler but half his clothes were two diffrent colors like two-face
