What up wrestling fans, I'm the WrestlingNerd bringing you another written review. Today, we take a look at WWE Smackdown 3/23/12. How do things go this week? Let's find out and start the review.
We open up the show with Daniel Bryan and AJ. He starts off by saying, "YES". Bryan claims he can talk about himself forever, but this is going to be about AJ. Bryan starts to ask AJ some questions. She talks about loving Bryan and how they like to spoon together. She calls him Danny, but Bryan tells her to not call him Danny in public. She apologizes and talks about how great of a lover Bryan is. In fact, I bet we all know how that would go…..
Sheamus interrupts and says he's sick of listening to this. He calls Bryan a coward and mocks him by saying Danny Boy. Once Sheamus makes people laugh, he leaves. The whole Danny Boy thing reminds me of that episode of Futurama where Zoidberg started singing Danny Boy. Anyway, there wasn't much to the opening. It was more padding for how Bryan is out of control and how AJ is completely hypnotized by love since she can't seem to realize how much Bryan has changed. By the way, I'm still waiting for WWEShop.com to release a Bryan T-shirt that has "YES" written all over it.
Match #1: R-Truth vs Mark Henry
Truth walks to the ring with an invisible little Jimmy. Yes, he really is that bat s*** insane. Then again, I am as well. Truth was making the match interesting, but the size disadvantage is too much to overcome. The finish comes when Truth goes for a crossbody, but Henry catches him and hits World's Strongest Slam for the clean victory. Little Jimmy can only do so much.
Winner via pinfall: Mark Henry
Yokozuna will be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame this year. I wonder why they didn't make this announcement on Raw this past week, but no matter. Zack Ryder is once again trying to get Teddy Long to add him to Team Teddy at WrestleMania. Teddy thinks Ryder is a distraction because of everything going on between him and Eve, but Ryder claims he can do the job. He says he has a mascot for Team Teddy, which turns out to be Hornswoggle. Teddy likes the idea, but says it isn't big enough. Ryder brings in Great Khali. Teddy is convinced, so Ryder and Khali are officially added to Team Teddy. Teddy's team is probably the biggest group of misfits ever. By the way, anyone else thinking Rey Mysterio will become the last member of Team Teddy? I'm just throwing that one out there.
Match #2: AJ vs Brie Bella
Josh Matthews just confused the Lebell lock to the Fuji Armbar? They are not even remotely the same, so what happened here? That would be like confusing a garbage can to a canister of peanuts. Matthews has been screwing up a lot lately. Have you noticed it? AJ is able to get a roll up victory. Bryan celebrates as if he won the match. After the match, the Bellas argue. Nikki supports Team Teddy while Brie supports Team Johnny. The chant was really bad. I like what Michael Cole said afterwords. What is going on? How appropriate, since I don't even know what's going on. Why did this make the air? I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of those things that never gets addressed again.
Winner via pinfall: AJ
Match #3: Jack Swagger vs Zack Ryder
This was a short match. The finish comes when Hornswoggle and Vickie Guerrero are arguing on the ring apron. This causes Biff Tannen to get distracted. Ryder takes advantage with the Rough Ryder. Ryder wins and…..I'm kinda bored. I think you can tell as well since I think this review sucks. Who's going to read this? This is the worst thing I have ever written. I don't blame you if you already gave up.
Winner via pinfall: Zack Ryder
Match #4: Big Show vs Kane
Because it was a good match from this past week on Raw, we get to see this match again. You know you're watching a filler show when you get repeat matches from earlier in the week. At this point, I'm almost waiting for Kane to put a mask over his mask, while over another mask. He will then invent what's called a mask mask. What exactly is it? Hell, I don't know, but Kane will master it. The match was…..blah. The finish comes when Show Chokeslams Kane, but Cody Rhodes gets in the ring to attack. Cody runs through the audience, so I guess that's Show cue to give up since he would probably tackle a random fan. Big Show, use tackle attack. Oh, and Randy Orton hits an RKO on Kane once Show starts staring out into the subspace.
Winner via DQ: Big Show
Match #5: Brodus Clay vs Heath Slater
It's kinda odd when the most entertaining part of the show is seeing a fat man jiggle and dance. You probably think I'm joking, but I'm being dead serious. Time to see the dactyl. You gotta have the dactyl when the Funkasaurus is in the house. This was surprisingly twice as long as the other Brodus matches, but the formula is still the same. Brodus hits a splash and he wins yet again. Somebody call my momma. No, I'm being serious. Somebody call my momma since I seem to be lost. HELP ME!!!
Winner via pinfall: Brodus Clay
Backstage with Ryder and Eve. Both talk about being on the WM card. Ryder talks about how smart Eve is, but she immediately gets offended since she assumed that Ryder thought she was an idiot. Ryder didn't mean it like that, but the damage has already been done. Eve cancels the dinner date they had planned and she will go with somebody else. As she's walking away, she gives off a smirk. As I've said for weeks, Ryder comes off as a complete tool. He fell for her seductive ways the first time, but manages to fall for it again. I like how John Cena isn't paying any attention to his friend. Then again, he has his hands full with the Rock. Has his hands full? That was a poor choice of words.
Match #6: Great Khali vs Dolph Ziggler
Christian was on commentary for this match. John Laurinaitis and Teddy were there to represent their guys. The match is what you would expect. The finish comes when Dolph locks in the sleeper hold. Seconds into the hold, Johnny rings the bell and says Dolph wins via submission. The bad guys are celebrating, but Teddy isn't happy about that. He restarts the match, but Dolph refuses to get back in the ring. Khali ends up winning this match via countout. The Teddy/Johnny storyline got a lot of attention tonight. Three of the matches were dedicated to the WM match. Not only that, but the Bellas talked about the match as well. So, that's four matches dedicated to this storyline. You know the WM card is full when the show starts to run on cruise control.
Winner via countout: Great Khali
Match #7: CM Punk and Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan and Miz
This was probably the best match of the night, but it isn't really saying much. The finish comes when Bryan tags in Miz since Bryan keeps running away from Sheamus. I guess he's with the run away guys…….LOLZ!!! That was awful. Sheamus ends up hitting the Brogue Kick on Miz and the match is over. Is Bryan a coward? YES YES YES!!!
Winner via pinfall: CM Punk and Sheamus
Overall Impression:
This was a very filler kind of evening. I mentioned how the show felt like it was in cruise control since we are near WM. We already know the majority of the WM matches and chances are that's the complete card. The only thing incomplete is all the competitors for the Johnny/Teddy match, but everything seems to be ready. Since we are near the big event and there's no new rivalries, most of the rivalries got a quick recap and that was that. Would I call this a bad episode of SD? No, I wouldn't go that far. It was a show I would consider around the average territory. Still, we had an average show last week and there was lots of entertaining things to see. With tonight's show, I really didn't get that vibe. I just couldn't get into the show. Then again, it might also have to do with the fact that I lost a lot of sleep with the midnight showing of The Hunger Games AND doing all my WSNerd duties. I really wasn't up for reviewing tonight's SD, but I most likely won't review next week's SD and I didn't want to skip the show two weeks in a row. That's going to do it for the review and I hope you enjoyed it. Not one of my better ones. I think I will call this the sleep deprived edition. Tell me what you thought of my review or tonight's show. I will see you guys and girls on the next WrestlingNerd show. See you next time.
All the fans are ready for WM, it feels like WWE has a full card, i don't see why WM is booked 6 weeks after the previous PPV? The creative staff are running out of ideas and shows like Smackdown are regularly becoming filler shows. Even the rock vs cena rivalry is getting dull, they didn't do anything last week (apart from one segment) - it's meant to be the most 'hyped' match in WWE history?! i don't think so.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the rey mysterio coming back on Smackdown, i also feel Del Rio will come back to Raw to join Team Johnny.
Thanks again for the review.
I only caught the last match on a replay this weekend as it was my birthday but according to the review i can pretty much skip it :P
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday
